December 3, 2009

Facebook! Msn Messenger! Yahoo Messenger! Texting! Myspace! Bebo! Twitter! All of these above are big parts of how we communicate in America. The most popular way to communicate is most likely texting. Facebook is most likely the most popular website that teens and adults both use on an everyday basis. Facebook involves writing messages on friends’ walls, sending private messages, and semi-private online chatting with friends. Msn messenger and Yahoo messenger are online chatting with friends. Myspace is similar to Facebook but Myspace is known for being partially unsafe. Twitter is a free social networking site and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Many celebrities in America have Twitter accounts and have many followers that are obsessed with knowing their every move.

What Kids Do For Fun

December 2, 2009

Here in Goodland there is small amount of things to do, because our population is about 4,000 people.  During the different seasons we have different activities.  In the summertime we go to the public pool, go on walks with our friends, and play sports.  Some sports are softball, tennis, swim team, golf, and baseball.  When the weather starts to become colder we find other things to do.  For example, we have snowball fights and go sledding when it snows.  We also play sports such as, volleyball, football, basketball, wrestling, and cheerleading.

Things we do any time of the year include, watching movies and TV, hanging out with friends, going to youth group, and have fun in Wal-mart.  Also we have an activity center here called the GAC, which stands for Goodland Activity Center, and is a place where you can exercise and have fun.  Another thing that kids do here is get on the computer and use Facebook, Twitter, MSN, Myspace, etc.

Hunting

December 2, 2009

Here in America we hunt birds, such as turkeys, ducks, pheasants, geese, and doves, with shotguns and sometimes rifles. We hunt ducks and geese out of boats or near water and we hunt pheasants, turkeys, and doves while walking through fields.

We also hunt deer and elk with rifles and bows. When we hunt deer or elk we wait in stands up in trees or walk through woods and look for markings of where they’ve been and where they might be. We skin all of these animals once we kill them, and then we cook and eat them.

Sports

Golf has become a major sport in the United States of America. There are many golfing terms like par, birdie, hole-in-one, eagle, bogie, and many, many, more.  The sport is basically using a golf club to hit a small ball that has been placed one a golfing tee after the first hit they must hit the ball off of the current terrain.  This sport is favored by many people there are 18 holes on a normal golf course.  There are variations of the sport like mini-golf, which is pretty much golf using only one type of club, the putter, and hitting the ball though, the small course.

Baseball is also known as America’s past time.  Baseball is a big sport in America just like golf.  Baseball started in the 1900’s and has been growing ever since.  The World Series is like the Super Bowl of baseball.  Baseball is one of the easiest sports to learn in America.  It consists of hitting, throwing, pitching, and chasing baseballs. This sport is widely spread in America.  Baseball brought many things to America like the idea of Hot dogs, Crackerjacks, and the song Take Me Out To the Ball Game to name a few. Baseball in someone ways has also brought the people of America together.

Football is the most watched sport in America.  Almost every school in America offers football. There are 32 teams in the National Football League, or the NFL. There are two divisions the NFC and the AFC. At the end of a season the best team from the AFC will play the best NFC team in the Super bowl. There has been 43 Super bowls so far and in January will be the 44th.

Hockey originated in Canada but has spread southward to the US. There are 30 teams in the National Hockey League, or the NHL. Hockey’s fan base is growing in the United States.
